Australian-born novelist and short story writer Janette Turner Hospital was the UEA writing fellow in 1996. Her first novel The Ivory Swing was published in 1982 and her first collection of stories Dislocations in 1982. She has since published over a dozen other titles and has held writing fellowships at universities in Australia, Canada and the US, including the MFA program at Columbia University.
